ARTICLES
Marzena Stor Strategies for Managing the Managerial Staff of International Organizations
The main goal of the article is to present and discuss some theoretical and empirical research findings on personnel strategies for managing executive staff in international corporations operating in Poland. The paper presents an original concept for a hierarchical model that is the resultant of personnel strategies of international corporations based on theoretical studies. Since this concept was also used in the empirical research, the main conclusions covered in the final part of the article refer to the mentioned model as well.

Mariusz Bratnicki, Przemysław Zbierowski Attention Profile: A New Recruitment Criterion
This paper presents the question of attention management in the organization and shows basic principles for incorporating attention distribution into the set of recruitment criteria. Attention is a crucial element molding the characteristics of  cognitive processes. The attention-based view of the company was developed on the basis of attention selectivity and limitations. It considers the organization's mass attention as one of its most valuable resources, one whose proper proper management is a source of competitive advantage and organizational success. This approach should be utilized in recruitment and the attention profile should be introduced as a criterion for selecting employees. Thus, it seems reasonable and justified for an organization to attract managers whose attention profile is in line with the requirements of the given organization. This study lays the groundwork for coupling attention management with recruitment, thus opening the road to further theoretical consideration, empirical research, and the application of this concept in business.

Włodzimierz Świątek The Manager as a Facilitator
In the following article, the author attempts to describe the role of the manager-facilitator in the context of contemporary organizations. Basing arguments on one of the most important needs commonly found among employees-i.e. "personal and professional development"-the author illustrates the universal usefulness of a professional facilitator in supporting development. Premises discussed in the article are well documented in light of cited scientific research whose detailed descriptions may be found in the wealth of scientific literature.

COMMUNIQUES
Anna Cierniak-Emerych, Małgorzata Gableta The Share of Production Workers Involved in Decision Making
This study highlights changes in the production sphere of companies stemming from technical and technological transformation as well as the introduction of modern management solutions. It is against this backdrop that the issue of blue-collar worker participation in decision making processes is examined. It is the most immediate variant of such participation-direct participation-that serves as a focus. At the same time, reference is made to the social policy standards of the European Union as well as the results of empirical studies conducted in manufacturing companies active in Lower Silesia.

Katarzyna Kloskowska-Kustosz, Katarzyna Lorenc, Iwona Kowalska Employee Impact and Psychological Toughness on Company Results
Assessment of mental toughness makes possible the measurement and comparison of attitudes that determine organizational success. This is especially true of a difficult and competitive environment. In Poland, this first-time research conducted by 4business&people Sp. z o.o. [Ltd.], an implementation oriented company, delivered valuable information about the employee population. The study was carried out using Mental Toughness Questionnaire 48 (AQR Ltd.), a tool created at the University of Hull in 2002. The study includes many interesting relations among mental toughness of employees and their position in the organizational structure, gender differences, and discrepancy between administrative and sales positions.
Mental toughness measurements find valuable business application in many different areas-recruitment and selection, success, talent management, basis development, coaching effectiveness measurement, change management, and professional burnout prevention.

PORTFOLIO OF METHODS AND TOOLS
Stanisław A. Witkowski and Magdalena Łużniak - Styles of Coping with Culture Shock in Global Companies: Methodological Aspects of Cross-Cultural Studies
This article describes selected aspects of planning cross-cultural research through an interdisciplinary approach. The intention of the authors was to describe questions linked with the mutual penetration of theoretical planes stemming from the sciences of sociology and anthropology as well as various areas of psychology, and therefore to the need for a specific approach to planning studies and research methodology in the case of such questions. The authors make reference to scientific tradition connected with cross-cultural comparisons as well as methodological problems making their appearance in projects so approached. The practical part of this article presents research financed out of resources of the Scientific Research Committee over the years 2004-2005 as a research project.
