DISCUSSION FORUM

Experts on the State of HRM in Poland
Polish businesses are standing in the face of the challenge ushered in by globalization and the need for knowledge-based economic development. Without modern and properly positioned HRM departments and managers within their structures, it may be that such a challenge exceeds the potential of Polish businesses to adapt to a changing economic reality. Personnel consultants and advisors speak out on the condition of human resource management in Poland, the place of HRM departments in organizational structures, and desirable directions for the development of this field.

ARTICLES

Bogdan Dąbrowski - New Roles for New Times
The concept of Strategic Human Resource Management, little known one Poland, is applied efficiently to only varying degrees. There are many companies announcing and describing the implementation of such strategies, but it is sufficient to examine their claims from the perspective of the customer to have doubts as to the practical translation of declarations committed to paper. In this article, the concept of Strategic Human Resource Management plays the role of a basis for developing arguments facilitating the introducing of modern personnel policies in Polish companies as well as in an effort to explain derivative problems.

The idea of targeted development processes as described in this text has its pedigree in an answer to two fundamental questions linked with the development of workers in the organization. The first relates to the sense and objective of worker development , while the second is tied with the matter of approach to development needs or how they change in connection with changes taking place in contemporary business. Also not without import is the rate of such changes. Both these matters are examined in order to fully understand the essence of targeted development processes.

Jerzy Kisielnicki - IT as a Support Tool for HRM
The intent of this article is to justify the premise that IT understood as information systems are useful and even vital to the effective functioning of HRM. A basic question that must be answered prior to undertaking any decisions with respect to applying IT is: What are the needs of the staff responsible for the company's personnel policy and how can they be helped? The following basic types of IT are presented: Office Automation Systems, Transaction Systems, Management Information Systems, and Advisory Systems, including Expert Systems.
