ARTICLES

Dariusz Bąk -Instruments for Creating Ethical Standards in the Organization: Design and Assessment
The paper presents basic methods for introducing ethical standards that are expected of an organization. The most commonly used method is the approval of a code of ethics. The first part of the paper includes general reflections on attempts to fit the ethical sensibilities of employee into the institutionalized framework of the organization. The second part defines and conducts a critical analysis of conditions under which a code of ethics can become an effective tool for the promotion of high ethical standards.

Marcin Łaciak - Cynicism in the Organization
The character of the following article is that of an overview. Its main purpose is to present the concept of organizational cynicism as well as to summarize the main theories explaining the causes of the phenomenon and its possible consequences.

Monika Miedzik - The Effects of Mobbing in the Workplace
In this article, the author presents the consequences of mobbing by concentrating on the impact on the organization. Awareness of the ranking of this problem seems indispensable in order to apply adequate standards to contemporary human resource management that contribute to the prevention of mobbing. As a phenomenon of significant scope and severe effects, mobbing requires recognition and regular monitoring as well as the application of relevant regulations on the organizational level. This is a task facing management and especially human resource management services.

Beata Radzka - Wage Inequalities from the Perspective of Just Distribution
Wages inequalities can be investigated from various points of view-economic, social, and ethical. This paper examines the ethics of inequalities in wages. Three leading theories of distributive justice-utilitarianism, libertarianism, Rawlsian egalitarianism-as well as Hayek's approach are applied in investigations of the question of justice in high levels of inequality. The conclusion is that neither the theories of distributive justice nor Hayek's approach, justify the high level of inequalities.

COMMUNIQUES

Jerzy Szczupaczyński - The Moral Stance of Managers and Human Resource Management in the Company
The pro-ethics orientation seems to be a significantly underestimated quality of the human resource management in Polish companies. Its points of reference are not merely the systemic solutions, but also the moral beliefs of the CEOs. The aim of this article is to present the tentative results of an exploratory qualitative analysis that was conducted within the "Moral Leadership Standards of Polish Managers and Entrepreneurs" grant (financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education). The analysis was based on a sample of interviews with 37 CEOs who manage middle- and large-sized companies located in different regions of Poland. Results show a very diverse picture of the moral attitudes of the Polish CEOs. Based on their perceptions of the ethics and management relationship, the following three types of attitudes were distinguished: "moral integralism," "moral residualism," and "immoralism." Moreover, the results also point to the critical opinions and negative attitudes of CEOs with respect to legal regulations governing the Polish economy.

Jerzy Donarski and Jan Bałamut - Work Ethicality in Human Resource Management
The aim of this paper is to encourage managers and active employees to measure the work ethicality of a company's staff. If it is below 60 percent, they should make projections as to which principles of ethics in work have not been applied to date, but should be applied in order to improve ethicality as well as make evaluations of the effects of pro-ethical actions. The methods and managerial tools needed to manage this process effectively (Management by Ethicality: Socially Responsible Management) are presented in the "Work Ethicality Standard EC1000" (Exposure draft), published in Polish on line at http://www.janski.edu.pl/Uczelnia,ek_1000.html (an English version will be available mid-2010). This standard is a research result of a research project financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and performed by the Bogdan Janski Academy in Poland.

Anna Jawor - Molding the Image of a Good Employer in Companies Operating in Poland
This article presents the results of research conducted between December 2008 and March 2009 by the Institute of Labor and Social Studies. The study encompassed fifty human resource management departments (interviews) and 1,204 employees (questionnaires) filling positions of operative workers, specialists, and managers. Companies with a confirmed high level of HRM-winners of the Human Resource Management Leader and Investor in Human Capital competitions-were invited to participate in the study.
