Bogusława Urbaniak The European Union's Fight for Labor Quality

We have become used to looking at the subject of the situation on the labor market exclusively in the context of work availability. In the face of growing unemployment it seemed that the most important matter is the holding of any job in line with the view that work is better than disbursed welfare. However, the solving of labor market problems cannot be at the cost of a worsening of employment standards and excessive compromise that only takes into consideration the creation of new jobs without any thought to their quality


Bohdan Jung Work-Life Balance: Back to the Starting Point?

This article uses the "Work-Life Balance" metaphor to look at the intensification and prolongation of work time leading to workaholic attitudes from the perspective of the historical debate on leisure and discretionary time, which took place in the social sciences in the 1960s and 1970s. This debate has already raised a number of issues on the interrelation of work and leisure that are now considered new and original. It also offers some far-reaching ideas on how to strike a more harmonious balance between work, income, and leisure over the individual's life cycle.
