Jerzy Kisielnicki Information Technology in the Organization
Our wish is to characterize the role of information technology systems in improving the efficiency of human resource management. The role of information technology systems in management significantly changes HRM principles. These changes are, for the most part, positive, but it must be remembered that we are not always pleased with the application of information technology. Information technology provides the staff of HRM divisions/sections with new possibilities, but also puts new challenges before them. Due to present trends in the development of new forms of organization that have occurred under the influence of information technology, including the Internet, questions of knowledge management and virtualization as well as their respective consequences are presented more broadly.
Adam Nowicki and Gracja Wydmuch Information Technology Application
Strategy in Human Resource Management The aim of this article is to present questions of information technology in the least structured area of organization. Current management tendencies are targeted at a strategic view of human resources—one that puts the human factor into the foreground. However, personnel strategy does not always find its reflection in technological solutions. This article points to the need for integration between individual strategies and especially their integration with information technology strategy in the sphere of human resource management.
Grażyna Gierszewska Information Systems Supporting Knowledge Management
Knowledge is a word used in the context of economics, business activity, and their related management. Industrial societies are becoming “knowledge” societies. It is becoming obvious that intellectual capital and knowledge management in today’s world is strictly coupled with competitive strategies, organizational structures, and organizational culture. This is visible in such trends as the belief that intellectual capital is an unquestioned company resource, even if it cannot be assessed (measured) and there are no rational limits in expenditures on the creation of knowledge.
Knowledge management requires changes in methods of company management. It is also linked with organizational objectives and strategies, albeit separate goals are also identified in knowledge management. Knowledge management necessitates support by other processes in the organization (especially personnel policy), and it is necessary to develop procedures relating to attracting, procuring, creating, and applying knowledge in the company.
Knowledge management is based on the use of new technologies (information and communication technology). Some of these are presented in this article. Knowledge management cannot be merely a specific form of creativity. It must lead to the achievement of tangible effects as well as the development of people with in the organization.
Sebastian Kopera and Jerzy Lewandowski Information Systems in Human Resource Management
Human resource management is one of the determinants of survival of the contemporary organization. It is for this reason that a look into how it is possible to provide support for the implementation of basic processes in this area applying available information systems is worth considering. This paper identifies primary functions within the framework of four HRM processes—personnel attracting and development, personnel administration services, managing people, and knowledge management. These functions delineate the scope of necessary support, which is the reference point for an overview of available systemic solutions.
Marian Dobrzyński and Krzysztof Klincewicz Managing People and IT Automation and the Creative Design of an Organization
The article presents two interpretations of the use of information technologies in management, introduced as the paradigms of automation and creative organizational design. The two paradigms are mutually complementary-the automation of administrative processes is often undertaken by information technology or financial departments, while personnel departments resort to solutions that provide support for employees and offer them new possibilities for working, the generation of knowledge, and improvement of competencies, thus offering new potential sources of competitive advantage for businesses. The flexibility of currently used technologies signifies a multiplicity of possible applications, while those who manage people should be aware of these opportunities as well as potential benefits for organizations. This article is based on literature research, analysis of available information technology solutions, and observation of management practices. The outcome of these methods is a proposal for a conceptual system that explains the essence of information technologies and their perceived role in organizations, with particular focus on the people management function.
Agnieszka Sitko–Lutek A New Paradigm for Developing Managers
The aim of this article is to present the new paradigm of manager development based on the application of advanced information technology. This phenomenon makes its appearance as a result of the development of a knowledge–based information economy as well as challenges relating to managing society’s potential. The article presents modern methods for developing managerial staff, taking into account
e-learning, its evolution, forms, techniques, and assessment of applicability. The new paradigm of information technology based manager development is becoming prerequisite to the success of the managerial staff of the contemporary organization.
Beata Filipiak The Role of Public Sector Staff in Creating an Information Society
The basis for the functioning of a modern society is knowledge and information. A significant role in creating the concept of an information society is played by government and local government level public administration. The aim of this article is to identify the role of public administration staff in building just such an information society.
This article discusses question relating to desirable directions of change linked with the introduction of the concept of the information society, the role and tasks of public sector administration in introducing the concept of the information society, and barriers and challenges facing public sector administration connected with the introduction of this concept.
